Traditional farm skills and late summer harvests are in full swing at Sheraton Park Farms!
We kick things off in the kitchen with Saundra skimming rich cream right off the top of fresh raw milk. Later, she puts her electric butter churn to work, turning that cream into delicious homemade sweet butter and setting aside the fresh buttermilk for future scratch-made biscuits.
Out in the garden, Chuck and Saundra check on late-summer progress, tackle routine weed hoeing, and get down to digging our potato crop. You won't believe the harvest we pulled from just one single small bag of seed potatoes from the local farm store!
Then, we share a unique homestead storage method: showing how we use our new commercial refrigerator to cure our fresh potatoes for long-term storage. Finally, Chuck and Saundra sit down on the tailgate of the buggy to reminisce about how our grandparents planted and harvested potatoes, passing down Appalachian farming traditions from generation to generation.
