Diet culture is a belief system that equates self-worth and health with thin bodies, weight loss, food restriction, and compulsive exercise. It affects everyone, but women and girls experience the brunt of it. Diet culture is toxic to mental health, affecting self-esteem and self-worth, in addition to triggering anxiety, guilt, depression, and eating disorders. It also increases risk for unhealthy drug and alcohol use, laxatives, purging, and over-exercising. Samantha shares her story about dealing with diet culture, how it affected her, and how she is recovering. #dietculture
