Talking about death in American culture has always been fraught with taboo. We are in general a death-denying culture, with a great fear of the unknown. This mindset is reflected in the long list of names we have for someone who is essentially a death doula, but who may also be referred to as any one of the following: dignity doula, mourning doula, end-of-life doula, thana doula, transition doula, elder care doula, death midwife, soul midwife, death coach, death-walker, dying guide, death specialist, death care advocate, death attendant, end-of-life practitioner, soul companion…the list goes on and on. In this compelling video, Mandy discusses her work as a dignity doula, sharing real-life experiences and showing us how important it is to learn to talk about death, listen to the dying person’s wishes, and reach out for support when needed. #dignitydoula #deathdoula
