Mainly from gripping the bar/dumbbell during his back workouts, that’s how he built them. He did use wrist straps to wrap around the bar/machine/dumbbell, but these were mainly saved for the final set as he didn’t want to use assistance when it wasn’t really needed.
On the days he trained back and biceps, after the workout, he’d head over to the sink in Temple Gym and struggle to move his fingers to splash water on his face because his forearms were so blown up!
But would he have trained his forearms directly with curls if they didn’t grow so much? Quite possibly yes.
Having thick, muscular forearms adds a level of power to your physique overall.
