In April 2024 I made a brief visit to Detroit, Michigan to check out their unique People Mover. The DPM is an elevated, standard gauge, automated rapid transit system that makes a small loop around the heart of downtown Detroit. Propulsion is provided by a linear induction motor system that pulls the trains magnetically along a "fourth rail," creating the system's iconic sound. The system opened in 1987 and still uses the original two-car ICTS Mark I trains, however the City of Detroit is in talks with Toronto to soon replace the fleet with the S-Series cars from the recently closed Scarborough RT.
