This is the first repair I needed to do on this 1996 Liberty Bus built on a Prevost XL bus chassis. While I just drove it 2000 miles, it developed a coolant leak at the rear. I thought it was just a loose radiator hose and corroded housing, but after repairing the lower hose the leak persisted. I found that the rear seal on the engine water pump was leaking. Rather than just repairing the water pump with a new seal/gasket, it seemed a better idea to replace the 30 year-old pump. Of course if I am doing a water pump on a 30 year-old engine, I might as well do the 30 year-old thermostats and replace any questionable hoses while the cooling system is drained.
I am in the process of restoring this luxury motorcoach and if the engine is not solid, the restoration really does not make any sense. So while I do not claim to be a great diesel chassis mechanic, this should show that the chassis and engine was built to be easily serviced and with limited tools and ability, many repairs can be done by most DIYer or those with basic mechanical abilities.
