Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man that occurred around 8:55 p.m. on May 31, 2026, in the 7200 block of Canal Street in Houston's Greater East End neighborhood. Officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to a hospital, where he later died. According to investigators, the victim had been detained and questioned by police earlier that evening during a trespassing-related call at a nearby residence but was released without charges. Hours later, he was found shot on a sidewalk near Canal Street. One other individual had been arrested for trespassing during the earlier incident. Police have not released the victim's identity or announced any suspects, and detectives are still working to determine whether the earlier trespassing call and the fatal shooting are connected. The investigation remains ongoing
