Ive made this fading then and now video showing how Peartree has changed using a top-down view from 1948 lined up with a 2026 view, hope you enjoy my video and please leave a comment if you do.
In this then and now there are no major changes but if you start looking a bit closer (on a big screen ideally) you will spot things such as...
Havelock Road - Over half of the terraced houses have been demolished on the left side, why did they do that?
Cameron Road - Numbers 77 to 89 appear to have been demolished and replaced with new builds around 2007, any ideas why?
Also I wonder why number 80 Cameron Road is missing ?
Harrington Street/Portland Street corner - House demolished and now a car park for a dentist (formerly Lister House Surgery)
Princes Street/Peartree Street/Harrington Street - A large plot that used to have terraced housing complete with gardens that included
The Portland Arms pub at 98 Princes Street. It was built in 1930 by Home Ales. It closed in 1975 and demolished in 1977. All of the houses on this
plot were cleared in the late 1980's. Today this is a playing field for Pear Tree Infant School.
