In this Hull Time Traveller AI Deluxe I'm standing on Silver Street where it meets with Land of Green Ginger/Trinity House lane/Whitefriargate and I'm looking west down Whitefriargate.
The 1962 video is actually created using A.I. from a single photograph, its brought it to life !
The building on the far right on the corner of Land of green ginger and Silver street (No 19) was built in 1907 for National Provincial Bank, this is a Grade II* listed building made of Portland stone.
In 1968 it was renamed the NatWest Bank, then in 2007 became the Royal bank of Scotland. By 2014 the building was converted to Silvers bar and restaurant, today this is Rio bar which opened on 23rd November 2024.
The next building on the right corner of Land of green ginger and Whitefriargate (No 67) is a fine-looking four-story building built in 1886 from Ashlar for the Colonial and United States Mortgage Co Ltd designed by Robert Clamp and Alfred Gelder who was an architect and politician.
in 2008 this was Britannia building society then Santander, by 2013 it was up for sale and remained empty until 4th July 2020 when it opened as The Green House, then in September 2024 it opened as The Blossom Tree.
The next building down Whitefriargate (No 63-66) was built in 1934 for British Home stores designed by A.L. Farman. Its in the Moderne style which is associated with Art Deco style.
in the 1962 view its Marks and Spencer’s shop, in 2025 its occupied by Superdrug and a charity shop.
On the far left is a building that was built in 1895 for the Union Bank of York, in 1917 it was renamed Barclay's Bank and remained as a bank until 1997 when it was converted to a
pub which opened in 1998 as a Lloyds Number 1, then in 2007 was re-named to The William Wilberforce and then it changed to a Yates in November 2016.
In both views in the middle far distance you can see the iconic green copper dome of Hull City Hall which was built 1903-1909.
Halfway down Whitefriargate on the left (where Boyes is located today) is the former Neptune Inn (Hotel) built 1794-1797, it became Custom House in 1815 and remained as that until 1913. In the 1930's the building was taken over by Boots. There is a blue heritage plaque above the entrance.

Please note that the Then & now section on my website is currently in need of a revamp as they were all created back in 2005 using Flash and this is no longer supported so I will have to recreate all of my work again using a different method. In the meantime I'm publishing them on my YouTube channel like this one.
