Noki Doki | Delfino Airstrip Dilemma – Stickless @NokiDoki | Uploaded September 2017 | Updated October 2024, 4 hours ago.
I collect the airstrip Shine without using the control stick or the C stick. Thanks to scatter for recommending this to me: twitch.tv/scattertv
This really wasn’t as simple as it may sound! You start this level facing Peach and the sea, with no way to move backwards because you don’t have F.L.U.D.D. So the first thing I do is get closer to the princess and double jump-dive at her to get knocked back over to the blue Toad, which pushes me slightly to the left. Then I use a jump-dive and a ground pound to get near the princess again, talk to her to set my angle, and double jump-dive at her again.
This sends me far enough back that I can talk to the blue Toad to turn towards him. By diving onto him at a really low point, I hit a sweet spot on the plane where wallsliding basically just turns Mario back towards the Toad, so I can talk to him again. Next I head straight (obviously) to the right of the purple Toad, talk to him from a kinda precise spot, and that sets my angle towards F.L.U.D.D.
Once the cutscenes end (thanks to the magic of practice codes), I backflip and ground pound at the earliest point that allows me to talk to the yellow Pianta and turn towards a stack of crates. I hover to the edge of a crate to grab the ledge and turn towards the orange Pianta, then hover around him while making sure to not initiate a bounce.
But that isn’t enough; if I went straight for the final talking spot, I couldn’t actually talk to him with my current angle. So I talk to him, backflip to get pushed left by the awning behind me, dive back next to the Pianta, and talk to him. This makes Mario face towards the Polluted Piranha, then the rest is pretty obvious.
(Actually, since my angle wasn’t ideal, I couldn’t immediately go for the Shine. That damage from ground pounding too early was totally accidental, but totally saved me some extra work.)
This video is RTA, played on Dolphin 5.0 with the PAL version of the game.
