Vocals & arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is a 16th century Italian song from the Manuscript of Frottole, BN Parigi, Rés Vm7 676, originating either in Mantua or Ferrara, containing diverse songs, this one being attributed to an anonymous composer. I took a polyphonic approach to the song by taking the lead melody, and deriving a basso ostinato and supplementary vertical lines that harmonise with the lead melody using the tonal principles of harmony at the time.
The instruments used are lutes, theorbos, mandores, a cornetto, drums and rattles, as well as a flute.
Italian lyrics:
Deh fussi la cui mecho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
La man li tocaria,
y lieto le diria
tu si la diva mia
cue la qu’al mio cor secho.
Deh fussi la cui mecho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
Y el corpo casi morto
Que senza el mio cor porto
Arria qualche conforto
Si se trobase teco.
Deh fussi la cui mecho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
Cue la qu’al mio cor secho
Li miei sospir focosi
Que porto al pèto ascosi,
no sarian si envidiosi
si fose un jorno teco.
Whilst I can grasp the overall meaning of the phrases, I'd rather leave it to one of our Italian friends in the comments to provide a translation as I did not manage to find any.
