William Lane Craig from @drcraigvideos recently presented an argument for God from the applicability of mathematics to the sciences. He claims that naturalism cannot explain why math works, other than by saying "it's coincidence." Stephen Woodford from @rationalityrules ationality Rules responded to Craig, arguing that there are a plethora of viable naturalistic explanations for the effectiveness of mathematics. Rationality Rules essentially argues that mathematics is a human invention which we created to come to terms with our immediate environment. And since the universe and the laws of physics are fairly consistent, it is no wonder that what we designed to come to terms with our own lives, also applies in the world of nature at large. He also claims that people like Steven Weinberg, Sabine Hossenfelder, or George Lakoof offer further examples of valid naturalistic explanations for the effectiveness of mathematics. This video is my response to Rationality Rules. What I will show is that once you examine Stephen Woodford's case, Craig's claim turns out to be true as the naturalist is indeed left with chance only to account for the effectiveness of mathematics. Who would have thought that Dr. Craig's argument for God from mathematics would pick up such momentum!
