December 23, 1995, a Piper PA 24 - 250 plane crashes into the forbidding mountains in the desert. The pilot, Lavern “Vern” DeBerg, intending to fly to Furnace Creek to deliver Christmas trees, before heading to his final destination of Lake Havasu City, wasn’t discovered until June the following year.
The aircraft remains are scattered and a memorial has been placed at the site of the crash.
