In Episode 1, Sam is tasked with delivering morphine to the first & last female president of the United States, Bridget Strand. She is terminally ill and confined to a bed, monitored by physicians.

The president and Sam have some form of previous history together. She does not survive this meeting with Sam. Die-Hardman & Deadman instruct Sam to carry the now deceased president to the incinerator west of Capital Knot City. If he doesn’t, the decomposing body of Bridget Strand will cause a void-out.
