Another semi-educational video containing both exploration and testing during a seam break-out (or "Seamwalking", as I like calling it).
0:00 - I went to the big waterfall to test seamwalking. For some reason a large invisible wall materializes around the entire waterfall inside the seam. It basically turns the waterfall into a bridge, making it easy to cross from one side to the other.
I stop to admire the sights for a moment. The game world undergoes such a big transformation in the seam that it's quite impressive to behold.
1:14 - The invisible wall is surprisingly wide as well. But eventually you fall off it and smash into the waters below (completely unharmed, of course).
2:01 - If you are floating in the river, the invisible wall prevents you from falling down the waterfall. And you might get stuck against it, I'm not sure if it's possible to leave the river once you are in this position.
2:29 - The same way a waterfall can't harm Sam, neither can tar. The drowning animation which would normally activate as Sam is about chest-deep in the tar cannot do so, allowing you to move around under the tar indefinitely. The speed of movement isn't actually all that bad if you have Speed Skeleton on.
Then there's a bit of sightseeing around the tar-filled ruins near South Knot City. There's a large invisible wall preventing you from accessing the town itself from this direction, though.
5:01 - A bit of sightseeing around the ruins to the north-west of South Knot City. This brings the Dead Sea from Chrono Cross into my mind, a little.
6:02 - A little bit of Weather Station sightseeing. I noticed that the water surface was suspiciously close overhead. Apparently, the position of the water level is determined by the location of Sam's death, and if you move far enough in seamwalking, you can see its edges or even go above it.
6:32 - So what does it look like above water surface? Well, the world continues to be submerged, but it's quite a surreal sight in itself seeing the water texture cover everything. Almost as if a huge flood has happened. The visuals are a little janky, with some flickering, since the player was never meant to see the water from this direction.
7:37 - A chapter dedicated to the floating carrier. Although regular cargo is hidden inside the seam, a floating carrier can still be placed down and ridden. It will be invisible, though.
8:12 - Sam seems to be immune or near-immune to tumbling while riding the floating carrier, probably because this animation is tied to taking damage and Sam cannot take damage inside the seam. I tried riding across all manner of difficult terrain in my tests, and I never had a fall. (The only exception is when I fell from very high into shallow water, but even then I didn't take any damage. This clip is seen at the end of the video.)
This means floating carrier is buffed as a movement tech inside the seam - you can use it freely even in tricky areas without the fear of taking a tumble.
8:32 - Of course, I had to mess around some more with the enemies. I tried bumping into people on a floating carrier. They will surely remember their encounter with the mysterious hoverboarding ghost porter.
9:09 - Another clip from this region, where enemies mysteriously lost interest in Sam after I started soothing BB. Although, I wonder if being in shallow water might also make enemies lose stamina and eventually become fatigued with combat? I guess that might be an alternative explanation for why they left.
9:54 - Another random clip where an enemy's life preserver malfunctioned, causing him to get dipped into the river repeatedly.
10:39 - If you're curious, this is what it looks like if you ride the floating carrier down from the waterfall. It's a rare tumbling scenario, but Sam loses no health from doing this.
