AKheon | Deadly Premonition (PS3) - skip entire Chapter 12 @AKheon | Uploaded July 2023 | Updated October 2024, 2 hours ago.
An improvement over the previous Chapter 12 skip that not only skips the tailing sequence but also the entire Muses Gallery segment. However, it is a bit more elaborate and inconsistent to pull off. This skip is also slightly experimental in the sense that it comes with some side effects... I don't think they're bad enough to prevent finishing the game, but I can't say with 100% certainty yet.

0:00 - Like in my previous skip video, I get the ball rolling by doing the Observation Deck break-out. I combine the binoculars-menu and regular gameplay by being in the binoculars-view at 23:00. The middle binocular needs to be used to have "Muses Gallery" as one of the viewing options.

0:58 - Like before, I quick travel to Muses Gallery with the Radio. To note, although you can use the binoculars menu as a quick travel mechanic in its own right while in this broken out state, using the Radio to quick travel ensures York's actual physical location stays at the Gallery. I find that otherwise he can randomly appear back at the Observation Deck, or some other strange stuff can happen... Anyway, using the Radio makes all of this much more consistent, if nothing else.

1:47 - I need to get York inside one of the stone steps so that I can use the "Peek" prompt of the Muses Gallery. York can't use most prompts at the moment, so I can't just press X to climb up the step. Instead, I must unload the stone step using the binoculars-menu, much like I unloaded the locked gate in the previous Chapter 12 video, except this time, the operation is a bit more surgical. You have to be careful with your positioning to pull this off, especially since you have no visuals at all. I align York properly, then very gently hold L-stick forward and keep it in that position during the loading time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but with practice you should get at least a 25 - 33% success rate with it.

There might be an element of RNG to this step, since sometimes the game just flat out moves York a fixed amount towards the direction of the bird's eye-view camera you choose from the binoculars-menu... or something like that? I can't say I fully understand this mechanic yet...

2:41 - "Peek" is one of the few prompts that can be used normally while inside the binoculars-menu. If you start to "Peek", then close the binoculars-menu, you break out of the action, activating a myriad of really serious side effects.

Although you can only see it for a few seconds on this video, York is immune to both walls and gravity after doing the break-out. This only lasts until using a prompt or entering a loading zone, so the joy is pretty short-lived.

Second effect is that the next loading zone you enter will have York appearing at the position of the window you just attempted to "Peek" through. In other words, you can use windows as doorways with this glitch. It has its limitations, but least here it works perfectly since the Muses Gallery windows lead straight to Diane's office, an area that's normally inaccessible until the very end of this Chapter.

3:55 - So, now you've completed Chapter 12. However, all is not well yet! Some residual effects of the peek break-out will still be a bother until you "Peek" a few more times to straighten the game out.

You can't accept George's invitation or immediately go to the hotel because trying to enter an interior before "Peeking" will certainly crash the game.

4:23 - I use the "Peek" prompt next to the Police Department since it's close by. As you can see here, this first "Peek" happens without a loading zone. Afterwards, York is teleported to the yard of Galaxy of Terror for an unknown reason.

The next time you enter an interior the game won't necessarily crash, but York will be deeply out of bounds and instantly falls to his doom. However, you can safely observe the void with another "Peek", after which the peek break-out and its lingering effects should finally be truly over.

Alternatively, you can go to the Hotel early and end the Chapter with this side effect still active. The cutscene where York writes his report and hangs out with Emily happens out of bounds, which looks funny, but this option is not as safe as just "Peeking" twice, since the game still has some not insignificant chance of crashing when you enter the Hotel - it happened to me twice while testing.

One other side effect I noticed was that the Chapter 12 mission marker near Galaxy of Terror never goes away - it confusingly remains on the map and even gives you a wrong time limit on the HUD. Walking into this marker does nothing, however - it's just totally purposeless, or so it seems.

The actual current mission is still available as normal, so this shouldn't mess up with the flow of the game, but I've only played up to Chapter 14 inside Harry's Mansion in my tests, so I can't guarantee this is true for the entire rest of the game.

But if everything should work normally, this would be a maybe 12-13 minute timesave in speedruns?
