Universal Studios Hollywood's "Dead Exposure: Death Valley" is one of the original haunted houses at Halloween Horror Nights 2024 (Hollywood), inspired by Orlando’s "Dead Exposure" from Halloween Horror Nights: Reflections of Fear and its prequel, "Dead Exposure: Patient Zero," from Halloween Horror Nights 28. This house in the Mummy Queue, codenamed "Crumble," thrusts guests into a top-secret government facility where a super-soldier experiment has gone disastrously wrong, transforming subjects into radioactive zombies who escape just as you arrive.
As guests enter, they’re confronted with the facade of the United States Military Proving Grounds in Death Valley. A white truck carrying radioactive materials, as indicated by its sticker, has crashed through a barbed wire fence, with smoke billowing from the wreckage. To the right, a security checkpoint room is visible, where a soldier's corpse hangs over a shattered window and a zombified soldier attacks from the doorway. Guests are bombarded by blaring alarms as they step into the security station, seeing the wrecked truck on the left with the driver dead at the wheel, before turning right into the facility.
Once inside, guests pass the security clearance room, where they’re attacked by the zombified worker. Following signs directing them to the Primate Research Facility, they’re ambushed by two hazmat-suited zombies. As they continue, they encounter glowing, radioactive chemicals and cages filled with primates—monkeys with exposed brains and wired heads, violently thrashing as flashing lights intensify the chaos.
The next room features disturbing experiments: on the right, a dismembered monkey is encased in a glass box, while on the left, a zombified ape devours the intestines of a scientist in a hazmat suit. Guests then navigate a blood-streaked hallway, leading to a display of eerie green fire before entering the communications room. Here, a bloodied hazmat zombie pounds relentlessly on a window, separated from the guests by a glass screen.
Inside the communications room, guests find two bodies sealed in oxygen bags while a beaten hazmat scientist lies on the floor. A video monitor displays the frantic base commander ordering the termination of "Project Galahad," the failed super-soldier program. Other screens show scientists fleeing from the experimental zombies. Suddenly, a zombie wired with electrical cables awakens and lunges at the guests.
Next, guests pass through prison cells, where the mangled corpses of scientists with exposed guts lie. In one of the cells, a zombie emerges to attack. Moving deeper into the facility, they encounter a tanktop-wearing zombie on the left and turn into the cold storage unit for Project Galahad. In the freezing room, zombies doused with chemicals dangle from the ceiling, forcing guests to push through them, while more zombies attack from both sides.
Entering the Ventilation Tunnel, a hard-hat zombie strikes from the left, and guests continue past radioactive barrels as they approach Project Galahad's Radiation Zone. Amidst loud sirens, the base commander makes a final announcement that the breach is uncontrollable and the facility must be burned to the ground to prevent the spread of infection.
In the radiation room, green fire blazes as skeletal, radioactive zombies emerge from barrels of toxic waste to attack the guests. As they scramble to escape the burning facility, they are ambushed one final time by three radioactive zombies, implying that a few have managed to break free into the world beyond.
