Last week was the week after big Daydream VR announcements from Google I/O 2017, and there were not many things going on about our favorite mobile VR platform. However, we do have some news and launches!
Google has released Daydream Elements to the Play Store which is a set of VR tech demos aimed at VR developers.
“Daydream Elements is a collection of tech demos that showcase principles and best practices for developing high-quality VR experiences. The core mechanics in each demo are built to be easily configurable and reusable for your own applications.” Think of this as a primer on how to create VR apps for Daydream.
there are three VR principles covered by demos in Daydream Elements – these include Locomotion, Menus and virtual controls, and Rendering and lighting.
Great news for football fans who would love to watch the upcoming Champions League final between Juventus Turin and Real Madrid in VR! You can do so!
A 360 degree livestream of the Champions League final, which will take place on 3rd June, will be available for free on Youtube and the BT Sports app. UK sport broadcaster BT Sport gained much praise last year by broadcasting the final of one of European Football’s biggest eventsfor free on YouTube and they will do it again this year.
Viewers watching the VR stream of the match between Real Madrid and Juventus will be able to choose between a 360-degree programme with commentary and graphics, or switch to a specific camera point at will.
Asus will be launching the first-ever smartphone to be equipped with both the Tango AR and Daydream VR technologies. ZenFone AR is also confirmed to be exclusively provided by Verizon in the United States.

The first ever smartphone to be equipped with both Google's Tango AR, a mobile augmented reality platform, and Daydream VR,, will be coming to the market soon.
The Tango AR platform allows a device to draw out the user's position in relation to surrounding places and objects without the help of GPS or other tools. This will enable developers to explore indoor navigation, 3D mapping, environmental recognition, and other similar AR experiences through application development.
However, there will be no interplay between Daydream and Tango AR in the Zenfone AR.
We also have a few interesting launches:
Unimersiv is new on the Daydream Play Store and according to the developer Unimersiv is the largest platform for educational VR experiences. The app is free of charge and so are a number of courses and experiences that come bundled with the app. Users can go on virtual field trips to ancient Rome, the ISS or to the Acropolis. Moreover the app offers courses that take place in virtual classrooms, taught by virtual private teachers. There is a premium subscriptions model that costs $2.99 per month an allows you to access all of the apps Premium content without restricitons.
Access Code is a new puzzle - adventure game set in the world of espionage. Search for hidden clues and hard evidence as you investigate a ring of art thieves by exploring detailed and photo realistic locations. Access code offers around 3 hours of puzzles that have you uncover a huge conspiracy that might claim the life of millions if you do not intervene. You can get the game for $4.99 from the Play Store.
And also new on the Play Store for $4.99 is PokerVR. PokerVR is a multiplayer poker game that is not only available on Daydream but also on Gear VR and Oculus Rift. Play with thousands of people from around the world, watch other players reael-life movoements and actually talk with them online while playing.
PokerVR offers a fun and relaxing atmosphere to play a round of Poker in VR and you might even have a nice conversation doing so!
