These are the Daydream VR news for week 13 of 2017!
Let's start this show with quite the Bummer: the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 won't be compatible with Daydream VR! That is incredibly unfortunate since the device obviously has all the technical specs needed to run Daydream.
When trying to install the Daydream app on Samsung's latest flagship device an error message will come up that says the phone is not compatible. Whatever reasons made Samsung decide to not include Daydream VR support, without a question it is not in the best interest of consumers who would have surely appreciated to choose for themselves if they want to use Daydream or GearVR for their mobile VR entertainment.
Oh well, what can I say, the mobile VR war is on! It is Daydream VR vs. GearVR. I certainly believe that Daydream's open approach will beat the walled garden of GearVR anytime, but running Daydream District probably does not make me the most objective person in that matter!
In other news, Google has updated the Daydream app and it comes with some little tweaks.
You can now check the controller's battery life, simply by looking down on your virtual controller in Daydream home. This also works in the Daydream Play store. Also you can set up which notifications are shown to you when in Virtual Reality. Moreover, there is now an option in the settings that lets you sign up to the latest Daydram news. However, since you are hopefully already a subscriber here on Daydream District, that is a feature you don't really need!
Let's talk about the launches now. The biggest launch without a doubt is Vendetta Online! I had mentioned it last week already because it had soft launched a week ago, but now it is officially available on the Daydream Play Store for $2.99.
Vendetta Online is a massive multiplayer online role playing game set in space. And for all those who had complained about too short experiences on Daydream VR: here is your game! If you want, you can play Vendetta Online for months, if not years! The game had first launched in 2004 and it had been running nonstop until now! In the beginning of the game you choose between three different nations and then you start your pilot training. After you pass the basic flight test the galaxy is yours to explore! Take on missions that will bring you to remote places, join guilds to battle other nations or simply deliver messages to other space outposts. Vendetta Online also supports bluetooth controllers and actually this is how the game is supposed to be played.
I liked the game so much actually that I did pick up a bluetooth controller, the xiaomi gamepad, and it works like a charm. If you are just a bit into science fiction, you should without a doubt pick up Vendetta and get one of these as well!
Good news for all those of you who would like to be creative in Virtual Reality. SculptrVR is an app that allows you to create whole new worlds in VR and even lets you do so with up to 15 other people in Multiplayer!
In SculptrVR you have lots of tools at your disposal to become creative and sculpt whole new worlds in VR. All the obvious brush types are available and you can teleport yourself around, change your own height, alter the position of the sun..you name it. Once you are satisfied with your creation you can even fly trough the world you built. SculptrVR is a must have for those who love Minecraft or who would simply like to build their own worlds within Daydream VR. ScluptrVR is available for $4.99 in the Daydream Play Store.
And finally we have Vision Maker. Vision Maker is very similar to Horizons since it also allows you to alter trippy visuals with just a few clicks on your motion controller. Have colorful discs fly around you in all kind of shapes all while a powerful beat is bouncing in the background. Vision Maker is one of those apps that will deeply immerse you into an audio-visual experience, and since its free there is absolutely no reason not to give it a try!
