Day 32 of my Europe trip on the BMW R1250GS, and this is easily one of the most scenic and adventurous days in Greece so far.

I start the day at the legendary Plaka Bridge – once the largest single-arch stone bridge in the Balkans, spanning the Arachthos River. From there it’s up into the mountains to visit the stunning Holy Kipinas Monastery, built right into the cliffside.

After a much-needed cake and cola stop in Kalarites, I take on the incredible Mparos Pass – twisty, high-altitude roads with jaw-dropping views. But the adventure doesn’t end there… on the descent, the tarmac disappears, and I’m suddenly on washed-out gravel roads for nearly 10 miles. Proper GS territory!

This day had it all – history, culture, epic scenery, and some unexpected off-road thrown in.
