Here are three of the Five Bagatelles for Strings (1938) by David Van Vactor. The Minuetto and Allegro giocoso display the humor and playfulness of Prokofiev. Between these two is a brooding Largo with a spirit of yearning expressed at times in the higher registers of the instruments.
