I spent a week rediscovering Darmstadt - a city I thought I knew by heart. Growing up here, I did see it, of course - but when you live somewhere day in and day out, its beauty can quietly fade into the background. This time, with a camera in hand, I slowed down at Luisenplatz, watched life unfold around the Ludwigsmonument, crossed Ludwigsplatz, and wandered into hidden corners I had passed a thousand times before. Familiar streets suddenly felt new again.

Known as the “City of Science,” Darmstadt is home to Technische Universität Darmstadt and numerous research institutions, yet it also carries a remarkable artistic and architectural heritage. From the historic Darmstadt Palace in the heart of the city to the nearby Mathildenhöhe (video coming soon) - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and landmark of Jugendstil - the city blends innovation with culture in a way that feels both grounded and inspiring. Spending this week here reminded me that sometimes you have to step back, even from your own hometown, to truly see how beautiful it has always been.
