Spend a day with us riding two different gondolas to reach the summit of Mount Pilatus at 2,128 meters (6,982 feet) above sea level. Our journey started at Mattenhof train station. From there, we took a short train ride to Kriens and walked about 10 minutes to the Kriens Valley Station, the starting point of the cable car system.

We boarded the first lift of the day, the Panorama Gondola, a 4-person cabin that glides steadily through forests and alpine meadows. After a scenic 30-minute ride with a quick stop at Krienseregg, we arrived at Fräkmüntegg, where we transferred to the second leg of the journey.

Next up: the Dragon Ride – a modern aerial cableway with large windows and steep gradients, designed to give you the feeling of flying. It brought us quickly and smoothly up to Pilatus Kulm, the summit area of Mount Pilatus. At the top, thick clouds blocked the famous view over Lake Lucerne — but turning the other way, we were rewarded with stunning views of the Alps stretching into the distance.
The changing weather added drama to the experience and made the visit all the more memorable.
