As mentioned above, this was an entry in PRC339 over at OCRemix. I do have a pretty strong background with this game, though, as I first played it on PS1 around when it came out. I never beat it back then, though. Since my oldest brother owned the PS1, I started and never beat a lot of games on it as he moved out/sold them after he was done playing them. I got the chance a little over year ago to play through and beat this game, and I was pretty satisfied with the whole game.
As for this mix, the first idea that popped in my head was this sort of half-time, R&B style groove with some synth leads. I went for a subdued take on the first playthrough, before opening the gates and letting the lead fly. I only had roughly 10 days or so to work on this, so I was pretty satisfied with what I did in that time frame. I usually keep a backlog for these uploads to lower stress, which means that I usually have a lot of time to work on songs if I need to. Let me know what you think by leaving a comment! Some of the musicians I follow here on YouTube are Blake Robinsons Synthetic Orchestra and ClefferNotes. Both take video game songs and put them in an orchestral format. They both also use a plugin named Albion One, by Spitfire Audio. So, I decided to take the plunge, buy the software, and try to make something cool using an orchestra. This track from Metroid Prime seemed like a great candidate to test out the plugin.
One of the main areas that I remember in Metroid Prime is that underwater ship. Not only was I stuck there, just like every other Metroid water level, but the music was just mesmerizing. So eerie, yet so calming. One of the many great areas in the game.
