The National Park always stood out as something special to me. The main reason to be in the park is for the Bug Catching Contest, which plays with a lot of energy. Entering the park when the contest is not active yields this very soothing, flowing melody that only plays in this spot.
For the cover, I went as soothing as I possibly could, removing the drums from the B section, and utilizing the extra channels to sustain the piano notes for a more realistic piano sound. As mentioned above, this was an entry in PRC339 over at OCRemix. I do have a pretty strong background with this game, though, as I first played it on PS1 around when it came out. I never beat it back then, though. Since my oldest brother owned the PS1, I started and never beat a lot of games on it as he moved out/sold them after he was done playing them. I got the chance a little over year ago to play through and beat this game, and I was pretty satisfied with the whole game.
As for this mix, the first idea that popped in my head was this sort of half-time, R&B style groove with some synth leads. I went for a subdued take on the first playthrough, before opening the gates and letting the lead fly. I only had roughly 10 days or so to work on this, so I was pretty satisfied with what I did in that time frame. I usually keep a backlog for these uploads to lower stress, which means that I usually have a lot of time to work on songs if I need to. Let me know what you think by leaving a comment! Some of the musicians I follow here on YouTube are Blake Robinsons Synthetic Orchestra and ClefferNotes. Both take video game songs and put them in an orchestral format. They both also use a plugin named Albion One, by Spitfire Audio. So, I decided to take the plunge, buy the software, and try to make something cool using an orchestra. This track from Metroid Prime seemed like a great candidate to test out the plugin.
One of the main areas that I remember in Metroid Prime is that underwater ship. Not only was I stuck there, just like every other Metroid water level, but the music was just mesmerizing. So eerie, yet so calming. One of the many great areas in the game.

The first theme from Gourmet Race has a plethora of covers on Youtube and elsewhere, but the second theme hasnt seen as much love. Ive always liked this theme, and its always reminded me of a circus march, what with the oom-pah sound throughout. Add in some counter-melody and some transition sections, and there it is!
