In this video, I cut and polish a dark Coober Pedy shell opal from rough stone through to the final finish.

Shell material can be unpredictable, especially with darker opal, but this piece showed some promising colour and pattern worth exploring. I take the stone through the full carving and polishing process while revealing how the opal develops along the way.

Coober Pedy continues to produce some fascinating material, and every piece has its own challenges and surprises hidden inside.
