"My mom left when I was little. She said to me, “Well, you’re the biggest mistake I’ve ever made so I never want to see you again.” There’s always that leftover thing of: if that person who’s supposed to care decided not to… and it kind of leaves space where you’re constantly trying to show like 'I am worth it.'
I was still raised really well. My grandmother and my aunt - so much of who I am, the strong person that I am - that person came from them. It wasn’t until later on that I get this huge letter from my mother: 'I have been trying to reach you. I don’t know why you don’t want to talk to me. I’m your mother. I love you. You should love me. Why are you like this?' So I stopped reading her letters.
There’s no need for her to feel sad. There’s no need for her to feel guilty. I just don’t think we can have that relationship. That is my choice, and there has to be nothing wrong with that, and I’m gonna be okay. I am okay." -- Danna A., #LivesofWomen
