This is the incredible footage of a Florida Highway Patrol standoff where the 'thin blue line' got some unexpected backup. On August 9, 2024, Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Benjamin Purdue spotted a silver Volkswagen Jetta driving recklessly southbound on US-19 near Republic Drive in Largo, Florida. When the trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, the driver, later identified as Jareem Roach, refused to stop and attempted to flee.
The pursuit was brief, but it escalated quickly. Troopers performed a PIT maneuver, pinning the Jetta and ending the vehicle pursuit. Even then, Roach tried desperately to escape before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot with a backpack.
According to the arrest report, that backpack contained multiple illegal substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and pills. Investigators also determined Roach had crashed into another vehicle during the incident and continued fleeing without stopping.
Roach now faces multiple charges, including:
• Possession of Methamphetamine
• Possession of Cocaine
• Possession of Marijuana
• Fleeing or Eluding Law Enforcement
• Driving While License Revoked — Felony Habitual Offender
• Two Counts of Battery
• Resisting an Officer Without Violence
