Dan Abrahams lays out the hierarchy here and I think every youth coach needs to hear it. Sport first for fun, then health, then being with your friends, then skill development. Competition comes way later on that list, not first.
An 11 or 12 year old getting shouted at during a rec league game tells me the adults involved have lost the plot on why kids play sports in the first place. You can still take it seriously at that age. Early seriousness dressed up as discipline is the problem. #shorts
