Don't you think that there's something special to historical socialist music? The lyrics, the marches ... some of them are really intense and catchy, regardless of what you might think of the political message behind it. Socialist music in general and from Germany in particular, usually involving East Germany aka the GDR, often shows itself either from a revolutionary standpoint where things are described from the perspective of (political) powerlessness, or they are songs portraying an official, lofty, glorious side in the greater scheme of things. This is where this song comes into play, as it shows us another, more personal and colloquial side of historical socialist songs. This was specifically what the artists, Oktoberklub, named after the 1917 revolution in Russia where socialism first gained a political foothold, were there for: Oktoberklub was the pioneer and most prominent group of the East German "Singeklub" movement that was supposed to make everyday songs showing (positive) aspects of life in the GDR popular and omnipresent. Oktoberklub was a relatively large group with changing members. Founded in 1966, they existed until the end of the GDR and briefly reunited for concerts even later on. The group was supported by the GDR ruling party and most members were staunch believers in the GDR's political system. The entire Singeklub movement was originally inspired by the revival of folk music in the US in the 60s, and part of the less formal attire of this movement is reflected in them using simple, catchy tunes and melodies, partially from songs all around the globe.
