Cyrill Lachauer’s new short film, ‘The Prologue’ (2026), follows some of the last remaining steam engines dating back to the Nazi era that are still in use in Bosnia’s coal-mining regions. Created in collaboration with producer/DJ Rhyw, who created the soundtrack, the 16mm film evokes the look and feel of century-old found footage, inviting a sense of an industry clinging to its final years.
Produced by the Sammlung Goetz and the Autotelic Foundation, ‘The Prologue’ is on view in Lachauer’s solo exhibition ‘The Sunset Route’ until September 27, 2026 at the Kunstpalais Erlangen, alongside photographs and films the artist created from 2020 to 2025 while traveling on freight trains through the USA, Mexico and Bosnia.
