Cyberpunk 2077 will only be launched in a few more weeks hopefully on December 10th. However it’s prequel, the Tabletop RPG named Cyberpunk RED just hit the digital stores. Even if you are not an T-RPG player, the book is full of lore that is canon to Cyberpunk 2077's story.

If you are not familiar with the Cyberpunk products it all began with Cyberpunk, The Roleplaying Game of the Dark Future, published in 1988 by legendary Mike Pondsmith. The first edition box set consists of three booklets that gives players all the information they need to start playing, as well as a pair of dice and several character sheets. A Second edition released a few years later in 1990, called Cyberpunk 2020 expanded upon the ruleset and the world and is considered the primary way to play the game. After the release of 2020, the first edition became known as Cyberpunk 2013, in reference to the year of the setting, to differentiate the two editions. After a small hiatus in the late 1990s, a third edition was released, known as Cyberpunk v3.0, however the book has later been revised and is now considered non-canon so let’s forget about this one for now.

By the time Mike started working on the true third main book, which later on would be named RED, he was approached by CD Projekt Red to start producing a video-game based on Mike’s vision of the future.

Both companies then started working in collaboration to develop the next two products in the Cyberpunk universe, the book Cyberpunk RED and the video game Cyberpunk 2077. On Mike’s own words:
RED allows us to create something unparalleled in gaming history—a tabletop RPG that serves as the perfect onramp for the expanded and far future of the Cyberpunk 2077 arc.

Alright, that was a lengthy introduction but it had to be done. Alright, now let’s say you don’t play table-top RPG games, but still want to know more about the lore of Cyberpunk 2077. What can you expect to find inside those pages of Cyberpunk RED. In short, A LOT.
