What does culturally responsive mental health care look like for Afghan refugee families rebuilding their lives after displacement?
In this presentation from the Global Refugee Mental Health Symposium, Dr. Nilofar Sami, Ph.D. explores evidence-based, culturally responsive approaches to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Afghan refugee children, adolescents, and families.
Drawing on her clinical experience and work through Maristan's Refugee Wellness and Success Program, Dr. Sami discusses the unique challenges Afghan families face following resettlement—including trauma, language barriers, and navigating unfamiliar healthcare systems. She highlights practical interventions that combine psychological best practices with cultural understanding, community engagement, and family-centered care to foster resilience and long-term wellbeing.

![Love in the Qur’an | Feel to Heal Ep 9: Love | Dr. Abdallah Rothman | Maristan Ramadan 2026
Who has the strongest love for Allah ﷻ? ❤️
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“...And those who believe are stronger in love for the Quran” [Qur’an 2:165].
The love from a believer stands firm in all circumstances. Classical scholars explained that a believer remains attached to Allah ﷻ in gain and loss alike. He does not turn away in hardship. His love for Allah ﷻ is steady because it is rooted in truth and yaqeen, not emotion alone.
In Episode 8, Dr. Abdallah Rothman explains the different types of love in the Qur’an and how to begin the journey of increasing our love of Allah ﷻ, and being more aware of His Love, Al-Wadud.
This Ramadan, we are asking our Instagram community to help raise $5,000 of our overall goal to launch the Maristan Academy. Your sadaqah today makes a true impact as we seek to offer new trainings that offer the Muslim community tools to help prevent mental health crises.
