This video utilizes 8mm movies and still photos taken by various participants to tell the story of the Winter Specials operated on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad out of Chama, NM by Scenic Railways, Inc. between 1974 and 1978.
It features ex-D&RGW narrow gauge rotary snowplows OM and OY, and Jordan Spreader OU.
The sound track, although kind of weird, is appropriate here. It was taken from a recording of what was laughingly referred to by some as The Chama Symphonic Orchestra, a "jug band" composed of various C&TS employees of those times as well as Chama, NM community members. We wiled away the long cold Chama winters by playing for dinner and drinks at the High Country Restaurant and Saloon.
