Kierio04 | CTGP Tracks Done Backwards - Bowser's Fiery Fortress Failed Attempt (13/218) @Kierio04 | Uploaded 2 years ago | Updated 1 hour ago
In this video, I show a failed attempt at completing the custom track 3DS Bowser's Castle (in CTGP 1.03-1112, it is named Bowser's Fiery Fortress) backwards with the 3 mushrooms available in time trials. In order for a track to count as being completed backwards, you must start in lap 1 and travel through all of lap 0 backwards, finishing by reaching lap -1. We will be going through the tracks of the CTGP 1.03-1112 update (29 Sep 2021) alphabetically, and returning to any past tracks if breakthroughs are made that change the statistics of the progression of the challenge (more on this later in the description).

There are 4 blocks causing trouble on this track:
1. Getting back to the final spiral
2. Getting up to the rotating wooden tube
3. Getting up from the lower forked path
4. Getting back to the beginning of the cannon
It is impossible to pass the first block with a respawn. So, shown in the video is an attempt at passing it instead by; going around the cannon trigger and tricking to reach the outer paths, in order to be able to start RFH on the cannon trigger ramp, and then using a RFH ejection to pass through a hole in the OOB walls. Unfortunately, as far as we can tell, the position and size of the hole and the distance and height we have to cover makes it impossible to pass this. Special thanks to this is police (youtube.com/channel/UC3f4F6RX4gBHOGxG6owYigg) for coming up with this idea (cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/891072226340765707/928393520593649714/IMG_0665.mov and cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/891072226340765707/928461438375317534/IMG_0666.mov). There were other ideas by EmuTheCat that involved bouncing off the edge of the track with an edge drift bounce (such as the one used to perform the rMR ultra shortcut), or a floor ejection, but both proved unhelpful (cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/891072226340765707/928412071815680050/2022-01-05_17-16-25_Trim.mp4 and cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/891072226340765707/928418853359337483/2022-01-05_17-43-39_Trim.mp4).
Let's suppose that it WERE possible to pass this block with 1 mushroom and 0 respawns. We would have 2 mushrooms available. The second block is even more of a hassle to pass as it has extremely great height and almost nothing to work with. The respawn point that would allow us to progress further backwards is not reachable and there is no way to get anywhere near a high enough clip. I thought of using the pipe on the side of the track (cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/891072226340765707/935019519930417242/RMCE01-1345.png) to get a hop clip and use HWG to go through the wall surrounding the track and then respawn, but it is not possible to do that because of the structure of the pipe preventing clips.
If it WERE possible to clip, then we would have to do it twice. First to activate HWG (where the horizontal/vertical walls meet at a convex corner), and second to perform it. Even if it took a mushroom to do each of these then it would still be feasible because (as previously mentioned) we have 2 mushrooms in supply. We would then respawn and end up before the 2nd block. From there we can drive back to the split paths (youtu.be/JR6p3_aJ-eo), then pass the third block with a shroomless RFH ejection clip and the fourth block with a shroomless respawn (youtu.be/xax9ft28Q0o).

In summary, Bowser's Fiery Fortress has no statistics to offer, because it is not possible to complete the track backwards whatsoever:
Minimum Respawns for Infinite Mushrooms: N/A
Minimum Respawns for 3, 2, 1, 0 Mushrooms: N/A, N/A, N/A, N/A
Minimum Mushrooms for Minimum Respawns: N/A
Minimum Mushrooms for Track Completion: N/A
