I've been looking to improve the wiper arm performance on crystal radios. First is to get rid of over-flex when moving the wiper arms. It makes it harder to tune, because the wiper arms flex and you have to guess where it will end up after you release it. I've moved from a 1.9 mm rod to a 3.1 mm rod for the arm.
I also tried adding a second ball, and shorted the arm to see if that would help.
