Ever since I began watching Youtube videos of these trucks years ago, I thought to myself about how cool it would be if I were to one day find something that classic, knowing all to well such trucks were being replaced by newer units. When I first saw footage of this truck, I had no idea where it worked, for how much longer, or if I would ever be able to see it in person some day.
Sure enough, 5 years later, this beast is still roaming around in Phelan, a community in California's high desert. This is a late 1980's model WhiteGMC low-entry, and I'm about 99% sure it is Ex-City of Burbank. Burbank was one of the only municipalities in Southern California that ran these drop-frame type Amrep MSLs. Another fun fact about this truck is that it (or a sister model) was featured in the infamous 1994 "Garbage Day" videos! The link to that video is in my Playlists section.
Overall I am very pleased to share with you this classic rig, as it is only the second time it has been filmed. It was also one of the strangest looking trucks I have ever seen in person, and may very well be one of the last true "drop frame" Amrep MSLs left. Huge thanks to the friendly driver for allowing me to film, and for professionally maneuvering Phelan's washed out dirt roads/ "trails".
