Crochet a brim that is 4 stitches deep and ~18 inches wide. Join the two short edges of the brim, turn it inside out, and section it off into 4 equal parts.
Row 1: CH 1, and spacing as evenly as you can, place 60 SC st in the available loops on the edge of your brim, using the st markers to try to place them as evenly as you can (there should be 15 SC in each of the 4 sections). SL st into the 1st SC st to join.
Row 2: CH 2, skip 1st st (this is the st where you placed the SL st), then place 1 DC in the BLO of the following 3 st, then place 1 DC in the BLO of the 1st (where you placed the SLst) st. *Skip the next st that you haven’t worked in, place 1 DC in the BLO of the following 3 st, then place 1 DC in the BLO of the skipped st.* Repeat * around the row and you should have 15 cable st (the steps between * and * create a cable st). SL st into the 1st DC st to join.
Row 3: CH 1, place 1 SC in the BLO of each st in the row - including the 1st st where you placed the SL st. SL st into the 1st SC to join.
Rows 4 - 11: Repeat the last 2 rows.
Row 12: CH 1, *place 1 SC in the BLO of st 1 - 2, then SC 2together in st 3 & 4.* Repeat * around the row. SL st into the 1st SC st (45 SC in total)
Row 13: CH 1, *place 1 SC in the BLO of st 1, then SC 2together in st 2 & 3.* Repeat * around the row. SL st into the 1st SC st (30 SC in total).
