I've outdone myself with this one man. Crimson Planet 100%. I'm sure none of you who've been around me for a while ever expected to see THIS as my new hardest. But here we are...
I go in to depth about my history and interest with this level in the video during my review (which starts at 3:00), so if you want to see why this completion is so special to me, be sure to watch it! This description will mainly be about my enjoyment since I didn't elaborate on it much.
To put it simply, this level was a surprise to everyone, including myself. For those of you who don't watch my streams, I started this level in complete secret, with most people being under the impression that I was going to do Bloodlust as a new hardest. Then came June 9th, where I surprised everyone on stream by revealing that I have connected runs on Crimson Planet! And thus began my true grind with this level.
As I just said, Crimson Planet wasn't just a surprise to all of y'all, it was also a surprise to me, as I actually found this level REALLY fun and really satisfying throughout most of my time playing it!
I'll start with my praises. 28-100% is an absolute blast to play. Yakob's wave specifically was SO ridiculously satisfying and consistent once I managed to get it down, to the point where I would actually die to the spider in the part more than the wave itself. I also really liked Terron's part, as it was also super satisfying and consistent once I managed to get it down.
AimtheSame and Dz3ser's parts were two of the most troublesome parts of the level for me. Dz3ser's part has the infamous consistency-click based wave which was probably my biggest chokepoint for my first week or so from 0%. While I usually struggle with waves like this, man is his part so stupidly satisfying after a while. It managed to get pretty consistent for me in the end, which resulted in me kind of liking the part. AimtheSame's part was easily the hardest part in the entire level for me to get down, with me only getting consistent at it about a week and a half ago. I really cannot describe how incredibly difficult that wave felt for me when I first started playing this level man, it was almost unfathomable to me that this was somehow meant to be possible from 0%. But, once I managed to pass it once from 0%, it suddenly just clicked, and I got relatively consistent at it. And just like Dz3ser, once it was consistent, it became incredibly satisfying.
Now here come my complaints. My main problems with this level are Omega's wave and Endlevel's part. No matter how consistent I was with 28-100%, these parts would always be a massive roadblock to me due to their inconsistent nature. The 17-25% part of the level felt almost luck based due to not only having to first get past the double click at 19%, but also passing the lottery that was the 20% transition into a fixed-hitbox straightfly. What a goofy set of parts man, I really don't know what the thought process behind them was.
However, just like with the rest of this level, towards the end I ended up getting pretty consistent with these parts, but even then they still felt pretty unfair at times. Definitely my least favorite parts in the level.
Despite that though, Crimson Planet was a very enjoyable experience. Especially when I was making progress at first, it felt so genuinely rewarding to play, and was a contender for one of my favorite levels ever at one point. Sadly, towards the end things did get a bit rougher, but that doesn't change the fact that this level is a hidden gem. The chaotic, intimidating nature of this level hides how unbelievably satisfying and consistent this level gets, and if you have the skill for it, I would highly suggest you check it out :)
Man, it feels unreal to write this. Crimson Planet was such an intimidating level for me for the longest time. Yet, here I am, with it now sitting as my hardest demon. It's wild how life just does that sometimes.
Of everything Crimson Planet taught me while I was playing it, though, there was one thing that stood out to me the most:
I'm capable of beating something WAY fuckin harder.
Thank you all for everything, and stay tuned :)
