It’s a essential composition tool for anyone who writes music. I will walk you through the 4 main cadences such as the perfect cadence, the plagal cadence and minor plagal cadence, imperfect cadence and the deceptive or interrupted cadence. After that I’ll show you some nice and well known variations such as the Picardi cadence, Andalusian cadence, Super Mario Cadence, Phrygian cadence and the back door cadence. So you can use them yourself in you own compositions.

Circle progressions, circular progression or circle of fifths progressions are very strong chord progressions based on the V – I (dominant – tonic) relationship as seen in the circle of fifths. They where used in the Baroque era by composers as Bach, Vivaldi and Händel, but also in Jazz and Rock they are still often used. Bach used circle progressions all the time and example is the Brandenburg concerts. In Jazz they are used in smaller versions like the vi – ii – V – I and the ii – V – I progression and in Rock and pop you can find this circle of fifths progression in songs like Still got the blues by Gary Moore and I will survive sung by Gloria Gainer. 0:00 1.
