This is a fast way of creating instances from copied objects in 3ds Max.

You may find this if working on imported BIM models where nothing is instanced.

Using the IgNite Springboard 3ds Max plugin, select the Select and Rename rollout, and click on Similar Object.
Select the object, (the balconies).
This selects everything that shares similar properties. However, it's advisable to click Reset Object to clear out any imported issues.

Next, reselect Similar Objects and the balconies.

Select the Instance Objects button and this will work through the selected objects and make instances of them.
