Using SiClone to make parametric handrails and fences in 3ds Max is easy.
It uses sweep shapes and distributed objects to make the parametric model.
First, add a SiClone object by locating the plugin in the Create/Objects rollout. Drag out or click in the viewport to add the plugin icon and go to the modifier tab.
To begin with, select a spline you want to follow.
Next, select the Scatter type i.e the building method. In this case, I used Ordered as I wanted a uniform spacing.
I then add the spline shapes to the Distributed Sweeps rollout. I move the shape up in the Z-direction to align correctly.
Now I move to add Distributed Objects, selecting the post object first. Because I'm using Ordered Pattern I can change this object to Post, which places it at corners and I can set the spacing between these points.
The bannisters are added next. Their spacing is set by the All Objects settings and distributed evenly between posts.
Once set, you can apply to any spline simply by clicking the Pick Spline Path button.
