If you’re familiar with Final Fantasy VII, then you probably know Shinra and their whole “let’s drain the Lifestream from the planet to power a city” thing. Suck power from Mother Gaia, light up Midgar, then maybe drop a whole section of the city for corporate profit and maybe ancient alien revival reasons. Who’s to say?
Anyway, I imagine sipping the blue Mako inside one of those reactors wouldn’t be too far off from this drink. Bright, tropical, blue, and powered up with ginger ale, it’s basically a little glass of questionable Shinra energy.
Fun Mako fact too: when it condenses properly, either naturally or artificially, you get Materia. Magic lil stones that grant special powers and benefits that some folks might even call “magic.” So naturally, we garnished the Mako Reactor with Gushers as edible Materia. If you’re luckier than I was, maybe you’ll pull something other than strawberry-flavored red Materia. Just my luck.
Mako Reactor 🧬⚡
▷ 2 oz (60 ml) Pineapple Rum (I used Pineapple Coconut Malibu) @MalibuDrinksGlobal
▷ 0.75 oz (22.5 ml) Blue Curaçao (Bols) @BOLSCOCKTAILS
▷ 0.5 oz (15 ml) Lime Juice
▷ 3-4 dashes Orange Bitters (Angostura) @angosturahouse
▷ Top with Ginger Ale
Method: Shake all except ginger ale. Pour into a glass and top with soda.
Garnish: Materia (Gushers)
