Indianapolis taxi driver makes baked goods for passengers.
A famous taxi by the nickname “Cookie Cabbie” was driven by Bill Pitzer in the late 90s by offering homemade baked goods to passengers who rode in his cab. Every day, Pitzer spent hours baking treats before starting his shift for Hoosier Cab No. 97. His menu included lemon puff cookies, carrot cake cookies, blueberry muffins, banana bread, pineapple upside-down cake and his famous cheesecake. Pitzer said his baking hobby began when he decided to quit smoking. In his search to keep busy, he found a recipe for an upside-down cake in the newspaper. Before long, baking became part of his daily routine and a memorable feature of his taxi service. Known by downtown hotel bellhops and airport skycaps, Pitzer built a reputation for offering passengers more than just a ride. His friendly service made him one of Indianapolis’ most recognizable cab drivers.
