The Indiana State Fair cheese sculpture celebrated 20 years Wednesday. Samantha Horton reports the masterpiece highlights all things dairy and is an utter delight to attendees.
This year’s sculpture features a variety of dairy products including cheese, ice cream and yogurt and pays homage to the fair’s baseball theme.
Taking center stage in the hundreds of pounds of cheddar artwork is a self sculpture of Sarah Kaufmann, known as the cheese lady.
When asked what keeps her coming back 20 years later, Kaufmann says for her the event is akin to the Grammy’s, Kentucky Derby or Superbowl.
“This is world-class sculpting here," said Kaufmann. "This is very very popular and famous when you look on the internet. How can I say no?”
The display is a part of the American Dairy Association of Indiana’s offerings at the state fair to connect guests with the state’s agricultural economy.
