In this video I demonstrate how I convert a Optimus 111T stove to burn alcohol. You can convert any standard regulated silent burner to burn alcohol using these techniques.
Here is how to convert a regulated silent burner from kerosene to alcohol.
You need:
- an alcohol jet
- an air restrictor tube
The alcohol jets can be found in some types of alcohol-burning marine stoves or from this supplier in the UK:

You need part #2508.
Use thin-walled 1/2” OD brass tubing available at hobby shops for building restrictors.
My restrictor that I made for this video is 1 1/2”(37mm) long. It has three holes, 3.2mm in diameter at one end. The other end has four holes, two of which are 3.2mm diameter while the other two are 3.6mm in diameter.
What size you holes end up with will depend on the fuel and the burner you are using. Try smaller and test, then adjust larger until you get them right for your setup. A Dremel tool can be used to make and enlarge the holes in increments.
Having a dual end makes it possible for you to use different formulations of alcohol by simply flipping the restrictor in the burner to the other end. “Green” denatured alcohol is typically almost all ethanol and will burn hotter and require larger holes. Methanol-heavy denatured alcohols have less energy and require smaller holes in the restrictor.
