Congaree National Park is underwater this weekend. But it's all part of an important ecological process, where sediment and nutrients from the overflowing Congaree River are deposited on the forest floor to nourish and feed a healthy forest.

These cycles of periodic flooding, along with the nutrients they bring, are one of the reasons Congaree NP is home to one of the highest average forest canopies in North America.
