Showing off some Mike Burtman's excellent mTCP suite on my 1984 Compa Portable. This is an 8088 machine with 640k of ram. I'm using an SMC ethernet card. Storage is just 2 floppies... a 720k 3.5 and 360k 5.25. I'm waiting on the next run of XT IDE cards to hook up the hard disk.
I get a DHCP address, verify the system clock is correct, then telnet to Weather Underground's service. Then I hop on the TDI Club IRC server.
You can find more info about mTCP here: brutman.com/mTCP
The system board on this computer only supports 256k of ram. The extra ram, plus the real time clock come from an AST 6 Pak Plus.
