This disk was designed for use in laptops, and has a semi-proprietary 26 pin interface based around the ST-412. It has a unique scratchy sound.
The example in my Data General / One has bad stiction problems. I modified the end stop so the parking cylinder is slightly different, and if I shake the dickens out of the laptop when the drive powers up, it will start.
The laptop here is a DG1 model 2T, the last revision. It has a backlit DSTN screen which is much easier to read than earlier models. I have the backlight turned off here because the inverter makes a whining sound. The rising squeal sound when the machine is turned off comes from the power supply on the hard disk controller card.
