OneMoreBolt | Column Shift For The 700r4 In My 1965 Chevy Nova Wagon @OneMoreBolt | Uploaded June 2024 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Making the decision to remove a little bit of cool factor and not use the fenderwell headers on my 1965 Chevy II Nova Wagon and go with the Speedway GComp chassis headers has re-opened the possibility of utilizing the column shift.
From the start when I got this car I wanted to get rid of the floor shifter, 1) I'm not a fan of the shifter that's in the car, 2) being a wagon I think it really needs to have a front bench and column shift, just seems right.
When it was looking like the car was going to end up with the fenderwell headers I was going to have to give up the column shift, well until I could figure out a way to work around the header tube that was very much in the way. Lucky enough for me, I spaced canceling the backordered chassis headers and then they showed up. So . . . figured WTH, lets see how they fit since they are here, and damn they fit perfect. First time I have not had to ding a header tube for a SBC to get them to clear everything.
Seeing as the chassis headers fit soo perfect, I made the call to give up the cool factor of the fenderwells for the perfect fitment of the chassis headers, which also come with a couple other key wins for a car being intended to be a road trip car, 1) heater hose lines can be run for the factor heater which was a no-go with the fenderwell headers, & 2) more importantly, the chassis headers open up the space needed to use the column shift.

So, in this video, yup you guessed it, we're figuring out how to get the column shift linkage hooked up making use of the Summit Racing Universal Column Shift Linkage Kit (link below).
